It was with great sadness that I received your news of Professor Chang's passing. 

He was a great and courageous man and a giant in the field of economic development

and I will miss him very much. It was a special privilege to see him for the last time

a year ago at the Chang Peikang awards ceremony. Please convey my condolences

to his wife and to his many friends and colleagues.
